T140 es valve timing

Hi all and thanks to everyone who responded to my Electric Starter problem ! My
new problem is this, in extracting the sprag clutch bearing, i've inadvertantly
removed the intermediate/idle pinion, ergo, becaust the inlet and the exhaust
can-shaft pinions were under load from valve springs,push-rods etc they moved
and thusly stuffed up the valve timing... The timing marks on all the pinions,
(dots and dash's) are pretty clear....can anyone give me a step-by-step/idiot
proof method method of re-setting the valve timing ? My manual isn't very
helpful at all.

Thanks,
Ian

You'll need to remove your rocker boxes to take the pressure off the cams first and then after ensuring the engine is at TDC set it up as this pic:-

This will give you the standard factory setting which I believe is a little de-tuned.
Or, you could take the head off, get a dial gauge and degree wheel and check and set the lobe centres to as close to 102 inlet and 103 exhaust as you can get. But that's loads of work and fiddly and complicated and probably only worth while if you're at a rebuild stage. I did it but had loads of time and needed to get out more and get a life  Grin
