Colin & Steve --Thanks for the kind words---There will be many travails before travels --I have really just ripped this bike apart , and doin some fabrication that is approaching the limits of my abilities --funny thing , I just misspelled limits, and one of the suggestions on spell check was "Limies"---coincidence?--I don't think soooo...I polished the head 30 years ago --THANKS for noticing !--It has huge valves--if there is any interest , I will post a pic of Me  burning off an old tire on this bike during my misshapen youth. werkin on D rear brake now . Am not too concerned with stainless expense, after what it cost for the rightfully expensive  AP Racing calipers and masters --They are MAX cool --.. I drive a 20 year old car , and wear  my clothes to rags - Early last year , my 2 best friends  , had major heath threats-they miraculously survived , And I started to think what is important to me ?. I spent 3k to buy the bike new in 79 - I spent another $1500 hundred on it at the time . neglected in a dry garage, it was still worth 3k in 2008 . If I spend 5K now , where am I going wrong ? - I learned I better live my life --Besides, I bought some leather gauntlets at the Scottish games last year that are so cool , I decided to rip the bike apart to bring it up to par --Wayjay

hi jeff,
you have the right attitude,or at least one simalar to mine,,,we are a long time out of this world,so try to accomplish what we can so we have no regrets when we check out... its dam hard to supress a passion :
please as i have said, the threads are great and the project looks hot
my time frame to follow suit is 2 or 3 years away yet,but ide like to fully rebuild and maybe modify my existing one,,( if i ever get it back from the shop ) which would mean ide have to buy another to ride while im rebuilding the other one,so its real interesting just reading all the threads here and in the boc group one,im starting to take in other peoples questions and build a lot more knowledge on triumphs,,but a totally different league to yourself and steviep and others, but its a great learning curve....

O.K.  Girls, ready for my latest infliction?  Have been werkin on the rear brake ..I made a drilled out hanger out of 3/8 alloy plate to hang my AP caliper , also a alloy torsion rod with 6160  clevises I made and then  seized on to 1/2 forged alloy . It does not weigh more than 30% less than the stock parts , but looks cool . I have to get the mufflers installed before I can determine some VERY tight clearances to the brake arm , ECT...   Am in contact  with the VERY fine people @ Keihan , that make some fine (read FINE) Conti replicas that are slim megaphones..this is gonna be so cool , but not easy , maybe my brackets will be offered to others that would like Conti's on there 140--If you wanna see um , I have a not too clear pic I posted @ the Bonneville owners group over in Yahoo groups --just go to pics , and on the last page , under WayJay's bike --The pic is small , but click on "original " , and it will get large ...Next things, Tach mount and carb stabilizers  + mounting the Pazon coil..Bless all you aging children that work and fix stuff....WayJay

Speaking of kinky parts and girls; did you know Morgo make a Yo-Yo? I'm a little unsure how this product relates to their fine, fine range of shiny motorcycle parts but I finding myself drooling slightly and hovering over the "buy it now button".
Keep on posting Jeff!

O.K.--Just spent ALL day reforging a Tryamp steel brake lever  to accept the AP racing small pull type master 4 the rear --It's starting to look cool , but ironic in a way as I practically never use the rear brake ...Will post a pic ...My wheels are comin next week , and expect the Kiehan mufflers as well.--Got a call from the Government security office --"A package is heading for the U.S. addressed to you , What are Conti silencers?" --this could have been fun , but desecration is the better part of valor--they are not WMD's---But of course , this could be debated .....Imagine if they were high lift cams?--I would have to state that there is a high risk to humanity. (whatever that is ). WayJay    P/S..If I send a pic , it is only mocked up progress

Hi Guys --My son just posted some pics --but naturally, the most important one was too big to be included ---That pic will appear eventually, and shows the application of the AP pull type master that I have struggled with the last few months . The other pics are self explanatory, but if there are any questions , just post ..It must be said that my camera is EXTREMELY cruel -Some of the images represent this bike as a rust relic --it is not ...it is a very clean bike , however , I was astounded during dis-assembly, the amount of unseen damage caused by frequent water washings..I should say now that washings with water must only be done when the entire bike can be brought up to temperature and dried thoroughly, out side AND IN all the little joints. when these circumstances are not available , perhaps, Water Displacement 40  (WD40) would be a better choice ..Kindest regards, WayJAy

Jeff
Looks good so far , I like the out-of-the-box thinking on all the custom parts...Mine will have to be done somewhat sooner and near stock , I'd like to be able to enjoy it for a few seasons while I can.....Ed from East TEXAS

Hi Ed-There is really nothing wrong with the stock 1979 bikes , from a rider's point of view, especially comparing with the earlier bikes . What I am attempting to do is make the good behaved '79 , look like my bad behaved '67.    Sort of like  Rebecka of sunny brook farms, dressing up like Helga , the war criminal, I mean after all, I spent a lot of money back in '80, to get this bike up to what was believed to be 70 horse-It was considered a fire breathing monster in the Cafe crowd ....BUt what have we now?--140 HP bikes --- I will likely have to detune from 10 1/2 pistons because of the gas, even if I was left with 65 horse , it would be OK, as that is plenty enough to get into trouble , And the fact is, I am not at all sure that I can even ride this bike for more than a quarter a quarter mile , because of Back injuries -time will tell ---kindest regards, Jeff   (WayJay)

Hey Colin--I will keep your kind offer in mind--LOL--seriously, I cannot get rid of this bike - I was so young when I bought it new with my own money  , and it was so important. ( still is) --Now I have more money to spend on the bike --DID I say that? it should read, " now I have less money because of what I have spent on this bike. "---There was some discussion about cost over in the BOC @ Yahoo groups --I did not interfere, because , I fear I am into this a little deep--But , what the hey , This bike turned on some Y chromosomes, big time ...one was my sweetie-pie wife , going on near 30 years , now , still hotter than ever--Gotta like it--WAY Jay ...PS hows yer byke goin?

hi jeff, lol,  yeh ,i recon after a few years of having triumphs,i bet most people forget what its actually cost them over the years,or convieniantly forget..lol   its called a passion
my bike !  well, last week they sent him the wrong rings twice !so he sais,, im just patiently letting him do it,ill ring him by weeks end and get another update  hmmmmmm
however, theres been plenty of bonnie things to do,ive converted a garden shed,to house the old girl, which involved widening the door as the handle bars were to wide to fit thru,i should quantify that last statement by saying, housing the triumph, not of course meaning my loverly wife, who might take it the wrong way if she ever read this.. after hearing how hard it was for stevie p getting covers to keep his bike dry,i decided to convert the garden shed.we have a 100 year old edwardian house which because of heritage listing means i cant build a garage.but theres suprisingly enough room in there to store it and have a couple of benches and cabinets,,just..so hopefully ill have the bike soon and i can enjoy a few rides b4 winter sets in,,but you can pick your days and still ride here thru winter..anyway keep up the threads on your project, there great
                            cheers jef.................colin
